Pine Class

December 2017

Pine Class have been joining in with lots of Christmas activities that have taken place in the school.

We had our trip to Garsons Garden Centre, we made some Christmas cards for the school fayre and performed in the Christmas show.

For our topic “We’ve Got the Power” we have been exploring light and colour. Over the term we shared some stories developing our commenting skills and using stories to answer questions and develop language skills.

We have also been exploring the artist Miro, recreating our own pictures developing our painting skills and practising to paint within a space or outline.

What will Pine Class be doing this Spring Term?

Our topic in the Spring is “Time Team” which is a Science and Geography based topic – we shall be focusing on rocks, fossils and their properties. We shall be developing our language skills by describing and commenting.

Our stories for the next half term are:

We shall also be using the story “Dinosaur Dig!” in our number work.

How can you help?

  • Each week we send signs and symbols home to support your child’s learning – please use these where you can. If you require any additional symbols or signs please get in contact with us and we shall endeavour to send specific signs and symbols home to you as well

  • Share books and stories with your child – we love to hear about any news books your child is interested in. Books are a great way to help support your child’s language development, particularly with commenting and social language

  • Model language to your child, commenting on things in your home and trips you have been on

  • Please share with us any trips or activities you have enjoyed with your child at home, we can talk to your child about these and incorporate them into our weekly activities

October 2017

Pine Class have been exploring sounds as part of the topic “We’ve Got the Power”. Over the term we shared some stories encouraging everyone to listen to different sounds.

We went on sound walks around the school looking for different instruments to play.

We made sound makers and used our communication systems to make choices of what we would like to put in them.

What will Pine Class be doing this half term?

This half term in the lead up to Christmas we will be exploring light and colour. We shall be sharing the books “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?” and “Elmer in the Snow”.

We will be working on our commenting skills and learning about colour and pattern. We also have art sessions with Sandra each week.

How can you help?

  • Each week we send signs and symbols home to support with your child’s learning so please use these where you can

  • If you would like any additional signs or symbols please let us know and we will do our best to send them home to you

  • Share a variety of books and stories with your child – we love to hear about what books have interested your child each week so please let us know in their reading records

  • Model language to your child commenting on things in your home and trips you have been on

July 2017

Pine Class have been busy this term learning about food and shopping! We have been very lucky to visit different shops and learn how to use a shopping list and pay for items.
We went to Asda to buy fruits and vegetables; Tesco to buy desserts and Garsons to buy flowers and plants for our outdoor area.

April 2017

Pine Class had a wonderful trip to Marwell Zoo to see the animals for our hook for the story “The big Red Bath”. We were able to see most of the animals that appear in the story and it was great to spot and name them during our visit.

We were also very lucky to be able to take part in the Hampshire Music Service show “Whatever the Weather!” at Ferneham Hall which offered us an opportunity to practice our dancing and singing skills!
